Lincoln's Dream
The war was over, Lincoln felt good again, no more boys had to die. Mary Lincoln had set it up for her and her husband to attend a play at Ford’s Theater that night. Curiously, seven different couples declined to go with the Lincolns, one of them was General Grant and his wife. Earlier that day around 11 am, Lincoln told his cabinet members that he had been having a recurring dream for about a week and each time he would wake up in a cold sweat with the dream seeming so real and it had been haunting him ever since. In the dream he said he would be walking down the hallway and by a bedroom in the east wing of the White House he would hear people sobbing and crying. He would look in and see a body wrapped in funeral vestments and around it were soldiers acting as guards. He would ask one of the soldiers, who is dead in the White House? The soldier would say, that the President was killed by an assassin.
